Meet LunarWing Desktop

LunarWing is taking a step beyond the server and gateway: the first alpha of LunarWing Desktop is now out.

Until now, much of the project has been experienced through the machinery that runs it: the engine, web gateway, tenants, channels, and workers. A desktop application opens another path into the project, with its own interface, its own development needs, and room to grow alongside the platform itself.

This is the beginning of that work, not its finished form.

A new part of LunarWing

LunarWing Desktop has its own home in the project: the LunarWing Desktop repository.

Keeping the application in a dedicated repository gives its development a distinct place to take shape while remaining part of the wider LunarWing ecosystem. The desktop client can evolve on its own track without pretending that the underlying platform and the application are the same thing.

The first alpha marks an important transition: LunarWing is beginning to grow a dedicated desktop presence, not just another way to reach the service.

LunarWing desktop includes support for LunarVoice, the native voice engine that runs in the LunarWing agent platform.

This is an alpha

The first version is available for early testing, and it should be approached with the expectations that word carries.

Some parts may be incomplete. Interaction patterns may change. Bugs and rough edges are part of what an early build is meant to expose, and the project’s priorities will continue to evolve as the application develops.

This announcement is not a claim of feature parity with every existing LunarWing interface, nor is it a declaration that the desktop experience is production-ready. It is the first public step toward discovering what the application should become.

For the current source, build guidance, and any available alpha artifacts, start at the LunarWing Desktop repository. The repository is the best place to follow the project’s actual state as it changes.

Separate milestone, same project

LunarWing v2.1.6.0 remains in development. The desktop alpha is a separate milestone and does not mean that the next core release is complete or released.

A beta version of the lunardesk application is expected to be completed by LunarWing 2.1.8.0 - See the roadmap for more detailed information and updates on this

The alpha version of lunardroid is also expected to be published prior to the 2.1.7.0 release

The platform and its desktop companion are related, but they do not have to mature on the same schedule. Keeping those milestones distinct lets the core work continue while the new application finds its footing.

The first step

A first alpha is not the moment when every question has been answered. It is the moment when the work becomes tangible enough for the next questions to be better ones.

LunarWing Desktop is out in the open now. There is a repository to explore, an application to test, and a new part of the project ready to grow.

This is the beginning. More as it takes shape.
